In these last few years, remote work has gained more traction. Working remotely is now one of the preferred ways to get things done. There are a lot of reasons for this; money and time are saved in commuting, results in more productivity, and it leads to a more happy and flexible work life.

However, not being in an office environment can sometimes also drain motivation and result in less productivity. If you are feeling less motivated lately, you can implement one of the below strategies to get back on track.

Change your setting

When you start feeling dull, or the distractions around are becoming more distracting, changing your work setting can be a good method of overcoming this. You can also go to a coffee shop to run away from the distractions of your home office. Even the local library is a good place to work.

Changing your physical location can help you remove the distractions that are preventing you from doing your work. Changing the location also helps to inspire creative ideas and fresh thinking.

 Use a timer

If you are finding it difficult to finish a project, set a timer for your work. Set a 20-minute time and power through your task. After that, give yourself a break. Believe that you can do anything for 20 minutes – sprint through the hard tasks. Often, after you finish a tough project or task, you feel energetic to continue with your work. It feels really amazing when you get done more than you planned for or anticipated. This can be a great boost for your motivation.

Create a regular routine and be consistent

Don’t just go and sit to work whenever you want. If you do that, very soon you will find yourself overwhelmed and disorganized. A better way to approach your work is to make it a habit.

Identify the time when you do your best work. Around that time, set a regular work schedule. For most, this may mean waking up early, doing some exercise, taking a shower, eating a healthy breakfast, then creating a checklist of all the tasks you need to complete today.

When you follow a routine, staying motivated and accomplishing your goals will become much easier. Remember to schedule your whole workday including the tasks you need to finish, regular breaks, and any meetings that you might have.

 Take a walk

Sometimes, the energy gets stuck and movements can get it moving again. Taking a small walk tends to help in situations like this. You can take a walk around the block or beach or track. This will help your head get out of the task or project you are doing and allows you the free headspace to solve problems.

Sunshine, fresh air, and plumping blood can give your motivation the needed boost. You can also take a walk with someone or go meet someone or talk to them on the call. These things can help your mood, creativity as well as motivation.

Reward yourself

A small reward can boost your motivation and confidence in getting work done. You can challenge yourself to complete a specific task within a set deadline. After completing the task, you can reward yourself. Set 20 minutes for a task, and work fast and hard in that time. After you are done, reward yourself with coffee, tea, a drink, or any other thing you would like to have at that moment. Rewards can be a great tool to elevate your low motivation level.

Final thoughts

Motivation is not a constant, sometimes it fades. And when you are working remotely, you tend to lose it easily. Apply the tips and strategies mentioned above to lift your fallen motivation and get back on track.
